High Roller Warning

Live casino games can involve significant stakes. VIP programs and personal dealers are designed to create engagement. Set strict deposit and loss limits before every session.

The immersive nature of live dealer games, combined with higher table limits and VIP incentives, means it is especially important for live casino players to maintain awareness of their spending and time at the table.

Warning Signs

Gambling becomes a problem when it stops being entertainment. Watch for these signs, particularly in a live casino context:

Staying at live tables longer than planned because the dealer is engaging
Increasing stakes to access VIP tables or programs
Chasing losses during a live session believing the "luck will turn"
Playing through the night because live tables are always open
Spending more to maintain VIP status or loyalty tier
Hiding live casino spending from partner or family
Borrowing money to fund high-stakes live play
Feeling anxious or irritable when not playing

If you recognise any of these behaviours in yourself or someone you know, please reach out to one of the support services listed below.

Canada Regulatory Context

In Ontario, online gambling is regulated by the AGCO, with iGaming Ontario operating the regulated market. Other provinces regulate gambling under their own frameworks.

Online casino regulation in Canada is handled province by province, not federally. Ontario opened its regulated market in April 2022, and Alberta opens its own on 13 July 2026. In most other provinces, the only legal online gambling is run by the provincial lottery or Crown operator. Canadian players in Ontario can play online casino games legally at AGCO-registered operators, which is the audience this site is built for.

Provincial self-exclusion programmes let you bar yourself from government-run gambling venues and sites in your province, such as OLG's programme in Ontario or Play Alberta's. These programmes do not automatically cover private online operators. For online self-exclusion, contact each operator directly or use blocking software (see the Self-Exclusion section above).

Alberta launches 13 July 2026. Alberta is opening a regulated online casino market overseen by Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC), with a new Crown agency, the Alberta iGaming Corporation, running it. Operators will need to register with the AGLC and sign an agreement with the corporation, much like the Ontario model. BestLiveCasinos.ca will update its coverage as the Alberta market opens and as other provinces move on regulation.

Self-Exclusion

Self-exclusion is a formal process that prevents you from accessing gambling services for a set period. It is one of the most effective tools available if you need to take a break or stop gambling entirely.

To self-exclude from an online casino, contact their customer support team directly and request a self-exclusion. Most live casinos will process this within 24 hours. During your exclusion period, your account will be locked and you will not be able to log in, deposit, or play.

You can also use blocking software to prevent access to gambling websites on your devices:

GamBlock — Specialist gambling blocking software that works across all browsers and devices
BetBlocker — Free, independently developed blocking tool available for all major platforms

Set Your Limits

Setting limits before you play is one of the most effective ways to stay in control. Most live casinos allow you to set these in your account settings.

Deposit limits — Set a maximum amount you can deposit per day, week, or month. Once the limit is reached, no further deposits are accepted until the period resets.
Loss limits — Set a maximum amount you are willing to lose in a given period. The casino will prevent further play once this threshold is hit.
Session time limits — Set a timer that alerts you or logs you out after a specified duration. This is especially useful for live casino play, where sessions can extend without you noticing.

Tips for Live Casino Players

Live dealer games are uniquely engaging. The social element, real-time interaction, and 24/7 availability mean you should take extra steps to stay in control:

Set a session budget before joining a table
Use the session timer feature
Don't let dealer chat keep you playing longer
Take breaks between games
Remember the house always has an edge
